We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit N-STAT!.

The short explanation of this alert was:
  • In September 2006, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruled in the Oakwood Healthcare decision that registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses who assign tasks, direct co-workers or utilize independent judgment - but perform no other managerial duties - can be classified as supervisors.
  • As a result of this shortsighted decision, hundreds of thousands of nurses have been effectively stripped of their right to organize and bargain collectively.
  • Legislation has been introduced in both chambers of Congress to restore this fundamental right to affected nurses and other workers.  Contact your Member of Congress today and urge them to support the Re-Empowerment of Skilled and Professional Employees and Construction Tradeworkers (RESPECT) Act, by signing-on to H.R. 1644 in the House and S. 969 in the Senate.
